Baltimore Lab School

A long-time goal of Founder Sally L. Smith and the Board of Trustees was to replicate Lab School methods and ambiance in other areas. The goal was to provide the same extra extraordinary educational opportunity for intelligent, often gifted children with learning disabilities who are not able to achieve academic success in regular classrooms. The first big step in realizing this dream was the opening of the first Baltimore Campus, an arts-based school, grades 1-8, in September, 2000.

Baltimore Lab School is located at 2220 St. Paul Street. It serves students with moderate to severe learning disabilities, ages 6 to 18 in grades 1-12. The school day runs from 8:15am to 3pm, with an after school program daily from 3 to 6pm.

The student/teacher ratio is low and each child receives an individualized teaching plan. The gifted teachers and administrators are trained in diagnostic-prescriptive teaching and intensive academic remediation. Students receive individualized reading, math, writing, spelling, and computer instruction daily. The other half of the day includes an Academic Club, the arts, science, and physical education. Related services (speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological services) are available on-site.
